In its new advertising and promotion campaign, American shoe and fashion manufacturer Timberland not only points out its sustainability and environmental friendliness, in stores and the Internet, Timberland also uses 3D technology. A three dimensional microsite now presents Timberland’s new “Earthkeeper† collection. The Flash-site can be viewed with or without 3D glasses.

For Jim Davey, who came from entertainment giant Nickelodeon and joined Timberland as Vice President of Global Marketing in 2009, the 3D initiative is more than a playful use of modern technology. 3D gives consumers the feeling of being in the midst of it – in the midst of nature. Still, 3D itself plays a role in addressing a younger crowd. Davey says, Timberland is making an effort to connect with the “twenty-something† crowd. 3D is an attractive way to do so.

A hint for visitors of the Timberland 3D website: The 3D effect can be activated at the right upper side of the site – just left of the 3D glasses.
