A media conference on the Passo del' Lucomagno in the Swiss canton of Ticino officially marked the start of Ernst Bromeis’ «Expedition 2014». The Swiss water ambassador had embarked on his journey to swim down the Rhine from its source to its mouth in Hoek van Holland a few hours earlier at the Lago di Dentro.
During the entire expedition, the public will be continuously kept up to date on the development of the project. A blog on www.dasblauewunder.ch as well as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr pages will feature news on the expedition 2014 as well as background information on Ernst Bromeis, his goals and past projects.
Bromeis and Gartmann met 2012 during the campaign for «Graubünden 2022», an initiative for a Swiss bid for the Winter Olympic Games in that year. «Christian Gartmann’s respectful and empathic manner in leading the complex communications of the Olympic candidacy immediately struck me», Bromeis recollects. «No matter how harsh the opposition, he remained loyal to the cause and he brought the project to an end with a calm and thoroughness that impressed me. I cannot think of a better communications expert for my expedition in 2014.»
As head of media, the communications expert from St. Moritz handles all relations with editorial offices and agencies. «Ernst Bromeis loves communicating with the media; during the expedition, though, he needs to focus solely on the physical and mental strength needed to accomplish his journey», explains Gartmann. «Both achievement and risks of such an expedition should not be underestimated.»
Besides Gartmann, Dorothée Meddens, the well-known Dutch camerawoman specialised in documentaries will accompany the expedition. She will showcase Ernst Bromeis’s journey as part of a film project on the Rhine. She will be filming continually and regularly post images and videos.
