Construction work for the Grace St. Moritz Hotel so far has been completed according to plan. All scheduled work planned on the historic La Margna hotel and the modern "Grace Wing" to the west were completed before the winter break. Sales efforts for the hotel’s serviced residences has shown, though, that there is a higher demand for smaller units than previously assumed.
The owners and project leaders have hence decided to interrupt the construction and to modify the project. Core of the changes is an increase of the number of hotel rooms by about one third. As a result, the rooms will be smaller; however, all units will now either offer a lake or a panoramic view. Blarer Reber Architects of Samedan are in charge of the redesign of the project; the details will be announced in summer. The opening of the Grace St. Moritz Hotel is now scheduled for 2020.
Robert Swade, CEO of Grace Hotels comments: "We have carefully analysed the demand patterns and the technical aspects, and we have eventually decided that we should take the opportunity adapt the project in response to the market. The revised project will have more but somewhat smaller rooms. We are convinced that it will now be a better fit for the demand and that it is in the interest of the hotel guest community and the town of St. Moritz."
