150 years — and what next?

After the anniversary winter “150 years of winter tourism”, the question is how tourism in the Alpine region can continue to develop. Are winter vacations a phase-out model or are holidays in the mountains the business of the future? At the 8th St. Moritz Village Talk, international tourism experts will discuss with local tourism professionals and the audience.

At the 8th St. Moritz Village Talk, international tourism experts will discuss with local tourism professionals and the public. 150 years after the start of winter tourism, the holiday resorts in the Alpine Arc are on the verge of a turning point: Changes in the climate, but also in consumer and leisure patterns, are questioning winter tourism as we have known it so far.

How can alpine destinations hold their own against global competition? What will the winter holidays of the future look like, and which places have the chance to benefit from them?

“Without winter tourism and pioneers from back then, the Alpenbogen would today be a sparsely populated, poor region with no prospects. Great pioneering acts have become rare today. The question of political guarantees has been replaced by entrepreneurial risks,” says Christian Gartmann about the starting position of the 8th St. Moritz village discussion.

Next Monday, Gartmann will discuss future models for holidays and leisure in the Alps with HSG Professor Christian Lässer, Tourism CEO Reto Branschi from Davos-Klosters and “Top of the Alps” President Markus Tschoner from Seefeld-Tirol. As always, the leaders of local tourism, politics, trade and industry as well as the population of the Upper Engadin are also present.

As always, the St. Moritz village talk on Monday, June 29 is open to the public and admission is free. The door opens at 19:45 h, the conversation in the Schweizerhof hotel hall starts punctually at 20:15 h.

The St. Moritz Village Talk is a co-production of St. Moritz village association with medienseminar.com. It is supported by Kur- und Verkehrsverein St. Moritz, who Klinik Gut and the Bank Julius Bär.
