Bondo is getting ready for winter

The work following the debris flows at Bondo is progressing very well. The protective measures for the village have been improved. As early as November 24, the Malojapass-Kantonsstraße can be opened to traffic again.

The good autumn weather has favored the removal work following the debris flows in late summer at Bondo. The retention basin for debris flows has now been emptied and is still being repaired in some places.

Safety has been improved with temporary protective structures for Bondo, Spino and the “Crotti” district in Promontogno: More material can now flow into the pool thanks to the cone neck at the upper entrance to the pool, and the edge of the pool has been raised on both sides by temporary dams.

The municipality and cantonal authorities are working on revising the long-term protection building project.

Civil Defense and Army units have cleared houses damaged by debris flows in Bondo's “blue zone” and then freed them of debris from the inside. Some of the buildings have been severely affected and are still unable to be occupied.

Bondo's water supply is being improved: Starting next Monday, a newly built, 2.3 km long transport pipeline will bring additional water from Stampa to Bondo's drinking water network. Bondo's demand for industrial and fire-fighting water can thus be met again.

There is also good news for motorists and tourism in Engadin: The H3b Malojapass cantonal road can be reconnected via the Promontogno bridge, dam and tunnel as early as Friday, November 24. This means that this important connection between northern Italy and the Engadin is once again available without restrictions just in time for the winter season.

At the fourth information session on Thursday evening, the “Bondo con Amore” campaign was provisionally concluded: The blue jacket, designed by Müstair company Printstick, was sold more than 1,500 times. Printstick managing director Hubert Peer was able to present community president Anna Giacometti with a cheque for 15,240 francs.

Christian Gartmann is supporting the municipality of Bregaglia in crisis communication following the rock falls and debris flows in summer 2017. He is a member and spokesperson of the municipal management staff (GFS).
