Construction of the new Gut Clinic in St. Moritz has begun

Klinik Gut has begun construction of its new head office in St. Moritz-Bad. A modern clinic for the musculoskeletal system is being built in the spa area at the Kurpark. The search for a location, planning and procedures for the new hospital building took around 20 years; it should go into operation in late autumn 2023.

St. Moritz is getting a new acute hospital for the musculoskeletal system. Specialists and therapists for all joints, a 24-hour emergency unit, a day clinic for outpatient procedures, two operating rooms, state-of-the-art imaging techniques with MRI, CT and digital X-rays, a ward for 24 patients, an operational base for the Upper Engadine rescue, a helicopter landing pad and a public restaurant will be available for locals and guests from winter 2023/2024. “It almost looks like an April Fool's joke,” said the father of the project, Dr. Adrian Urfer, at the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday in St. Moritz.

“When it takes 20 years to create a new location, it's understandable that the population can hardly believe that something is actually happening anymore. We are all the more pleased that we can now build a new Klinik Gut for St. Moritz.”

“Klinik Gut belongs to St. Moritz and St. Moritz belongs to Klinik Gut,” said Mayor Christian Jott Jenny to the guests at the groundbreaking ceremony. For St. Moritz, it was very important that Klinik Gut did not emigrate with its range of services and year-round jobs. He was very happy that the municipality was able to actively support the implementation at the chosen location. Klinik Gut St. Moritz employs 136 people.

Part of Graubünden's decentralized healthcare system

Thomas Grünenfelder, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Klinik Gut, thanked the municipality of St. Moritz and all partners involved for the swift process. After the intensive planning phase, it is now time to implement the project, which patients, staff and the population have had to wait too long for.

Klinik Gut plays an important role in decentralized healthcare in the canton of Graubünden, finally said Hans Peter Risch, Secretary General for Health, Civil Protection and Military of the Department of Justice, Security and Health, as representative of the canton. Klinik Gut in St. Moritz treats injuries from accidents as well as musculoskeletal disorders. More than half of patients have general insurance.

The new St. Moritz Clinic is being built as an extension to the existing spa center. Together with the doctors and therapists who are already practicing there, St. Moritz is getting a modern center for numerous medical specialties, which is open to locals and guests.

Construction costs amount to around 35 million francs.
