On Thursday and Friday, geologist Andreas Huwiler visited primary and high school students from the municipality of Albula/Alvra and explained to them the processes on the Hang ob Brienz/Brinzauls. The lessons were part of the municipality's ongoing risk dialogue with the population.

Geologist Andreas Huwiler from the Grisons Department of Forest and Natural Hazards visited students in Lantsch/Lenz and Tiefencastel on Thursday and Friday. In lessons specially adapted to the respective age groups, he explained the Brienz slide and the current situation surrounding the impending rock fall, mountain slide or rock slide above Brienz/Brinzauls. The visit, followed by a round of questions and discussions, was accompanied by a social worker.
Andreas Huwiler said after the last lesson on Friday that there were lively discussion rounds in the six groups. All eleven evacuated schoolchildren from Brienz were also present at the lessons. The discussion was led by social worker and supervisor Jürg Marguth, who also supervises the hotline of the municipality of Albula/Alvra for those affected from Brienz/Brinzauls.
The school visits were offered to the school by the community management staff as part of the risk dialogue that the municipality has been having with those affected and the public since 2019. As part of the dialogue, information events are held regularly for the Brienz population. However, these are almost only visited by adults.
That is why the community management team now also sought direct contact with the students. They too should be comprehensively and transparently informed about the Brienz slide, the current situation and the measures taken by the municipality. The students showed great interest in the direct information and had already submitted many questions in advance. Depending on the development of the situation and the needs of the schools, further similar events can be held.
Christian Gartmann has been a member of the Albula/Alvra community management staff since 2019 and is responsible for communication and media relations in connection with the Brienz slide. In particular, this includes risk dialogue with the public.
