The 38th Engadin Night Sprint in St. Moritz is dedicated to the anniversary “50 years of Engadin Ski Marathon”. Numerous guests from sports, politics, society and media will celebrate the golden anniversary of the “Engadin” on Friday evening, including Registrar Martin Aebli, District President Dr. Mario Cavigelli, record winner Albert Giger and Françoise Stahel, who is the only woman to have contested all previous “Engadines”. The Engadin Night Sprint exemplifies the idea of the Engadin Ski Marathon: This is where world-class athletes meet up-and-coming runners from the region.

The night sprint also has a lot to offer in terms of sport this year: With Anders Gløersen (NOR), Dietmar Nöckler (ITA) and Candide Pralong (SUI), world-class athletes are at the start who otherwise compete at the Olympic Games or in the World Cup. For women, Alina Meier, a Graubünden, sees herself in a favorite role. The young woman from Davos had surprisingly finished second last year.

Attractive competition format

Friday evening starts at 18:00 with a temporary prologue, in which the ladies and gentlemen of the elite qualify for the later knockout rounds. From 6:20 p.m., it's all shot by blow: In the final rounds, six runners will compete against each other over one or two rounds and try to qualify for the next round using the knock-out system.

Among the top players, young athletes from the region are also fighting for the title of the night sprint: Girls, boys and young people compete against each other in the three age categories U10, U14 and U16 and enjoy the competition atmosphere in floodlights and in front of hundreds of spectators.

On the occasion of the anniversary “50 years of Engadin Ski Marathon”, an additional nostalgia parade is taking place: The Engadin ski clubs and giubulairs are showing outfits and equipment from the last 50 years. The anniversary evening will be concluded with a big fire show on the roof of the Ovaverva sports center.
