During the upcoming FIS Alpine Ski World Championships, Hotel Schweizerhof St. Moritz is taking on a number of special tasks. As the “House of Switzerland”, Schweizerhof hosts Swiss-Ski and its partners, and medal ceremonies and TV broadcasts will take place in the “House of the Fans” right next to the hotel. Since Thursday, Schweizerhof has also been catering for helpers on the mountain; Schweizerhof hotelier Martin Scherer-Urban is responsible for catering for the World Ski Championships.

The 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships have already begun for Hotel Schweizerhof. Since Thursday, the Schweizerhof crew has been feeding the helpers during the construction work on the World Cup site on Corviglia. Voluntaris, members of the army and employees of partner companies can look forward to varied and nutritious menus every lunchtime. “The food has a big influence on the mood and performance of everyone who is already working on Corviglia.
We are delighted that, with Hotel Schweizerhof, we have a catering partner at our side who puts people in a good mood with their food every lunch,” says Franco Giovanoli, Director of the World Ski Championships. The food for the helpers will be delivered from the Schweizerhof hotel kitchen until January 22. After that, the Compass Group will cook at the finish house on the Salastrains until the end of the World Cup. “Just before and during the World Cup, up to 3,500 meals are prepared daily for volunteers, military, civil defense and media people.
There will be various menus every day, including meatless options or dishes for certain people with allergies,” explains Schweizerhof hotelier Martin Scherer-Urban, who is also the food manager for the World Ski Championships. “Professional chefs then work in the kitchen on Salstrains, who are supported by Voluntaris.” After the World Cup, the kitchen on Salastrains will be closed again. Until the dismantling work is completed, the Schweizerhof's hotel kitchen will take over again.
Vibrant center for Swiss fans
On January 16, construction of the “House of the Fans” will begin on the Schweizerhof site: The two-story tent building will be the vibrant center for Swiss fans during the World Cup. “We hope to celebrate a lot of Swiss medals here together with Swiss-Ski, its sponsors, the media and the fans!” , says hotelier Yvonne Urban Scherer. The “House of the Fans” will offer Swiss cuisine, live broadcasts of all races and musical entertainment every day from 13:00 to 01:00 and Swiss television will produce daily live broadcasts at the “House of the Fans”.
Swiss Television will also set up a studio on the roof of the Schweizerhof. Weather broadcasts and live broadcasts for all three language regions will be broadcasted from here. As the “House of Switzerland”, Hotel Schweizerhof will be the official hotel of Swiss-Ski during the World Championships. The association leaders, sponsors and officials of Swiss-Ski will live here. “We and our team are proud to be the hosts of the host association,” explains Yvonne Urban Scherer. “There will be a lot going on in and around the Schweizerhof.
On our Bar Street too, of course: There is live music in the Stübli from 16:00 and the QN Bar becomes a meeting place for conversations well into the night.”
