The “mother of all airliners” concludes her anniversary tour

The JUNKERS F 13 has completed its anniversary tour through European countries. A hundred years after the first flight, a newly built JUNKERS F 13 attended events in Switzerland, Germany, France and Great Britain and delighted tens of thousands of visitors. With the tour, Junkers Flugzeugwerke Dübendorf commemorated the historical significance of the JUNKERS F 13 and its inventor Prof. Hugo Junkers.

Schleissheim Airport near Munich was the last of twelve stops in Germany, Great Britain, France and Switzerland where the newly built JUNKERS F 13 commemorated the first flight a hundred years ago and aviation pioneer Professor Hugo Junkers (1859-1935) this summer.

At the same time as the JUNKERS F 13 anniversary tour was completed, the Schleissheim airfield at the Deutsches Museum Munich opened a special exhibition. Just like the tour, it reminds us of the JUNKERS F 13's maiden flight 100 years ago and the great significance that this aircraft has for civil aviation.

The JUNKERS F 13 was the first all-metal aircraft built for purely civilian use. The “mother of all airliners” has been rebuilt in Dübendorf near Zurich in a small series since 2016.

“Wherever our new JUNKERS F 13 appears, it inspires people and reminds people of the worldwide importance of the peaceful use of aircraft,” said Dieter Morszeck, founder and CEO of Junkers Flugzeugwerke Dübendorf, at the end of the anniversary tour. “Civilian aircraft connect countries, continents and the people of the world. For a hundred years, they have been transporting mail, freight and travelers, making a major contribution to understanding between peoples.”

CEO Dieter Morszeck is flying the newly built JUNKERS F 13 as a pilot. He took the opportunity to personally pilot sightseeing flights with guests and media professionals throughout the summer. His Junkers Flugzeugwerke Dübendorf recently completed their second new JUNKERS F 13. It is currently being intensively tested and should then complete its first flight.

100 years of JUNKERS F 13: The 2019 tour

100 years after the first flight of the JUNKERS F 13, the first aircraft in the newly built small series attended a number of flight events across Europe. The enthusiasm was huge, the response at the events and in the media was enormous. We would like to thank our hosts and the thousands of visitors to our events in 2019.
