The Engadin Ski Marathon 2020 cannot take place. Due to the spread of the coronavirus, the health authorities of the Canton of Grisons have prohibited the holding of major events of supra-regional significance in Südbünden until March 8. As a result, the Engadin Ski Marathon, the Engadin Women's Run, the Engadin Night Run and the St. Moritz Supersprint cannot take place this year. The Engadin Ski Marathon is the second-largest cross-country skiing event in the world.

The biggest cross-country skiing festival in the Alps, the Engadin Marathon Week 2020, is not taking place. In order to slow down the spread of the coronavirus, the Grisons Health Department decreed the cancellation of public events in Südbünden on Thursday. On Wednesday, two cases of infection with the coronavirus were detected in Upper Engadin.
“We are very sorry that we have to cancel the Engadin Marathon Week after all, but the health of our runners, volunteers and the population naturally comes first,” said Menduri Kasper, CEO of the Engadin Ski Marathon.
Almost 17,000 participants in five Engadin Marathon Week competitions are affected by the cancellation. The organizer will inform you in the course of March about the further administrative procedure following the forced cancellation.
The Engadin Ski Marathon is the second-largest cross-country skiing event in the world. It is only the second time since 1969 that it has not been able to take place. The Engadin Women's Run, which would have taken place next Sunday, is the second-largest cross-country skiing event in Switzerland.
Christian Gartmann is the communications officer of the Engadin Ski Marathon. He advises organizers on communication, media relations and crisis management.
