No joint clinic for the musculoskeletal system in the Upper Engadine

Spital Oberengadin and Klinik Gut have decided not to establish a joint clinic for orthopedics and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system. Negotiations on a joint subsidiary, the relocation of Klinik Gut from St. Moritz to Samedan and the creation of a joint permanent practice in St. Moritz were broken off. The agreement between the two houses is still good — the existing cooperation will continue.

One year after the start of the talks, Klinik Gut AG and the Oberengadin Health Care Foundation, which includes the Oberengadin Hospital, have broken off their negotiations on combining orthopedics and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system.

The two partners have come to the conclusion that the cooperation model pursued in recent months is not working for economic and contractual reasons.

Both healthcare providers have a cantonal mandate for the range of treatments of orthopedics, i.e. treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system, i.e. treatment of consequences of accidents. They had the intention to found a joint subsidiary, to relocate the operations and hospital ward of Klinik Gut to Samedan and to open a permanent clinic together in St. Moritz.

Since the plans were announced in summer, intensive discussions and project work had taken place. Unfortunately, these led to the conclusion that no joint solution could currently be found. Both parties regret the failure of the project.

They will continue their previous activities even without the planned joint company. Despite the cancellation of the project, the supply of locals and guests in the region and the jobs of the two houses are not in question.

The cooperation that has existed since 2017, under which doctors from Klinik Gut treat orthopedic patients at the Oberengadin Hospital, is being continued. Both sides remain open to deepening their existing cooperation.

Klinik Gut has already intensified its investigations for a new hospital building in Upper Engadin. The focus is on the two locations “Heilbadareal” and “Serletta Süd” in St. Moritz. The master plan to modernize the Upper Engadine Hospital is also being continued.
