Kurverein St. Moritz launches think tank with gartmann.biz

By handing over its operational tasks in the sports and event sector to the municipality, the St. Moritz Kurverein is redefining its tasks from 2014: The Kurverein remains the mouthpiece for tourist concerns and continues to operate the business with its protected brand St. Moritz. He will promote innovative projects and support the work of the new Municipal Tourism Commission. To this end, the Kurverein has launched the “St. Moritz 360” think tank. It is led by Christian Gartmann

At the beginning of 2014, the oldest and probably most famous spa association in Switzerland will hand over its operational tasks and employees to the municipality of St. Moritz. With the entry into force of the municipality's new tourism law, the municipality assumes responsibility for the tourist concerns and infrastructure that previously belonged to the Kurverein. For this purpose, the municipality forms its own tourism department, which is subordinate to the municipality's new tourism commission, in which the spa association has the majority of members. The Tourism Department is divided into two departments: “Sports and Events” and “Infrastructure”.

The sports and events department, led by Martin Berthod, will plan, carry out or support local and regional events with the proven team from the Kurverein and coordinate the St. Moritz event calendar. The tasks of the sports and events department also support St. Moritz's digital communication channels, i.e. websites, social media platforms, online newsletters, apps and other formats, as well as the publication of various print products.

The infrastructure department under Marco Michel ensures the operation of the new Ovaverva water sports center and various sports facilities in the municipality. These include the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz-Celerina, the Cresta Run, the Ludains artificial ice rink and the altitude training center.

St. Moritz 360: Kurverein becomes a strategy and think tank

As owner of the globally protected brand St. Moritz, the Kurverein will continue to monitor its maintenance and marketing and intensify the licensing business. The Board has also set itself new goals: “Within the new structures of St. Moritz Tourism, we are not only the mouthpiece of tourism service providers, but are also increasingly thinking tanks and supporters of innovative projects,” says Richard Diller, President of the St. Moritz Kurverein. “We want to represent tourism concerns actively and with a view to the future. To this end, we have launched the 'St. Moritz 360' project, which supports the work of the new Tourism Commission.”

“St. Moritz 360” brings together different generations of tourism, trade, industry and services as well as lateral thinkers and external experts. Current and strategic topics are discussed in quarterly workshop meetings. The results of each discussion are adopted as inputs for the Commission's work and published publicly.

“St. Moritz 360” is managed by St. Moritz management consultant Christian Gartmann. He held a first round of talks at the beginning of December, which focused on the expectations of St. Moritz service providers regarding the new tourism structure and the “St. Moritz 360” project. “Efficient and flexible funding of innovative projects and an infrastructure that is consistently geared to the future needs of guests were two of the central concerns,” says Gartmann, summarizing the initial discussion. “We were able to take away valuable ideas for detailing the project and for discussions in 2014.” The next workshop discussion will take place at the end of this winter.
