Retailers in St. Moritz are under pressure: Competition from the Internet and shopping tourism abroad have cost up to half of the turnover, depending on the company, and high rents weigh on the costs side. Local businesses are faced with the question of existence; empty shops are becoming increasingly difficult to rent out. The future of St. Moritz retail trade is at the center of the 11th St. Moritz Village Talk.

11th St. Moritz Village Talk, Wednesday, April 12, 2017
Who is coming back and who isn't? With the end of the winter World Cup season, most St. Moritz retailers are saying goodbye to the off-season. However, some of them have closed their shop doors forever; they are turning their backs on St. Moritz. Internet trade, competition from cheaper countries and high store rents make life difficult for retailers in St. Moritz.
Will shops in the village now remain empty? How is St. Moritz's shopping offering changing? What significance does the shopping offer have for today's guests? What is the situation in other destinations? How should St. Moritz deal with this development?
In the 11th St. Moritz Village Talk, retailers, tourism professionals and business experts will discuss the future of St. Moritz retail trade.
Christian Gartmann's guests are:
- Ambros Strolz, owner of Strolz Fashion and Sport, Lech am Arlberg
- Urs Wiprächtiger, President of the Davos Shopping Promenade Association, owner of “Schneider's Davos”
As always, the leaders of local tourism, politics, entrepreneurs from trade and industry and the population of the Upper Engadin are also present.
As always, the St. Moritz village talk on Wednesday, April 12 is open to the public and admission is free. The door opens at 7:45pm; the conversation in the Schweizerhof Hotel hall starts punctually at 8:15pm.
The St. Moritz Village Talks are a co-production of the St. Moritz village association and the St. Moritz spa and tourist association with gartmann.biz. They are supported by Klinik Gut and Bank Julius Bär.
