You can withdraw your candidacy at any time

Before the IOC awards the 2022 Olympic Games, Switzerland will have clarity on all aspects of the Grisons 2022 project and its costs. In negotiations with the IOC, it will then be clarified whether or not it will accept the concept of the snow-white games under the guidelines of the Swiss initiators. If it turns out that the core values of the project known today cannot be met, the candidacy will be withdrawn before the award is made on July 31, 2015.

At the end of the cantonal voting campaign for an Olympic candidacy, the Grisons association draws a positive balance in 2022. The concept has been massively developed and improved since September 2012. The consistent focus on sustainability aspects, the good infrastructure in our country and the balanced implementation budget are the best prerequisites for preparing a very competitive application dossier by 2015.

In addition to the federal government, the canton of Grisons and the host cities of Davos and St. Moritz, the Swiss economy is also making a significant contribution to the costs of the candidacy: Commitments of more than three quarters of the targeted sponsorship budget have already been received before the vote.

Those responsible for the association made it clear that a “yes” on March 3 is not yet a final “yes” for implementation. An Olympic candidacy is above all a very detailed planning, budgeting and negotiation process. With a “yes” on March 3, the people of Graubünden are giving the green light for the development of a detailed concept for the Winter Olympics in Grisons. Based on this detailed concept, the municipalities of St. Moritz and Davos, the Canton of Graubünden, the Federal Government and Swiss Olympic will not decide until 2015 whether the Games are suitable for Grisons and whether they should actually be held.
