The Engadin Ski Marathon is becoming more popular every year: Four months before the run, more than 10,000 runners have already signed up. Everything points to the fact that the second-largest cross-country skiing race in the world will also be fully booked this winter. Women's running and night running are also more popular than ever before and are above previous registration records. In the meantime, more than 100 kilometers of trails are already open in deep snow-covered Engadin.

The organizers of the Engadin Ski Marathon are delighted. Already in the first half of November, a lot of snow fell in Upper Engadine and more than 100 kilometers of trails are prepared in excellent condition. Preparations for the 52nd Engadin Ski Marathon are in full swing. Yesterday, the 52nd Engadin already broke the mark of 10,000 registrations; that is 14 percent more than in the previous year.
“Enthusiasm for the Engadin actually seems to be growing year after year,” says Menduri Kasper, CEO of the Engadin Ski Marathon. “There is also a maximum limit of 14,200 registrations this winter. Because the snow came so early, we expect the marathon to sell out a little earlier than in the previous two years.”
The registrations received so far for the Engadin Night Run and the Engadin Women's Run also show a very positive picture; both events are significantly higher than the registration records of the previous year.
New sponsors signed
The promises made by two new sponsors are also a reason to celebrate. British shoe manufacturer Vivo Barefoot and Swiss bouillon and spice specialist Oswald are now co-sponsors of the Engadin Ski Marathon.
Oswald will now prepare bouillon for all participants. On marathon Sunday alone, around 3,500 liters of it are drunk.
Vivo Barefoot became known for its novel shoe concept, which is very close to walking barefoot. The company manufactures its sports, outdoor and everyday shoes in Europe and also sells them in Switzerland.
The 2020 Engadin Marathon Week starts on Sunday, March 1 with the 21st Engadin Women's Run over 17 kilometers from Samedan to S-chanf. On Thursday, March 5, the 4th Engadin night run from Sils to Pontresina will also run over 17 kilometers. The highlight will then be the 52nd Engadin Ski Marathon on Sunday, March 8, 2020.
