The rezoning of Hotel La Margna comes before the people

On September 13, the municipality of St. Moritz will vote on the rezoning of Hotel La Margna into a new hotel zone. The municipal council unanimously passed the corresponding bill on Thursday evening. The rezoning is necessary in order to be able to comprehensively rebuild, expand and reopen the hotel, which is closed today.

The historic Hotel La Margna near St. Moritz railway station is to be comprehensively renovated and expanded with an additional building. The necessary rezoning into a hotel zone was passed by the St. Moritz municipal council for the referendum.

The unanimous approval of the bill by the municipal council is an important signal to voters that St. Moritz needs and supports new hotels and investments in tourism. Following an approval in the referendum on September 13, the cantonal government still has to approve the rezoning. After that, a building application should be submitted immediately.

The preparatory work could then start in winter and the actual construction work in spring 2016. A partial opening of the new hotel before the 2017 World Ski Championships is being considered, and the entire operation should be opened at the end of 2017.

Since 2013, the St. Moritzer Hotel La Margna has been owned by the globally active “Grace Hotels” group. The group intends to hold Hotel La Margna in the long term and to run it as a boutique hotel itself.
