The slightly delayed ice formation on Lake St. Moritz has so far had no influence on the organization of the St. Moritz Snow Polo World Cup at the end of January. Experts from the St. Moritz Maritime Commission are constantly monitoring ice formation and quality; there is enough time to set up the infrastructure on the lake.

Warm temperatures in early winter and a drop in heat at the start of the new year have delayed ice formation on Lake St. Moritz by a few days. Since December 30, however, the lake has frozen over all over and the ice is constantly growing.
The investigations of the ice sheet by experts from the Maritime Commission have yielded satisfactory results on ice thickness and quality. “The weather forecasts for the coming week promise cold nights and days, and St. Moritz and the friends of Snow Polo can look forward to the tournament at the end of January,” says Reto Gaudenzi, CEO of the St. Moritz Snow Polo World Cup.
Teams from Australia, Ireland, Italy and Switzerland will be playing the only high-goal polo tournament on snow in St. Moritz from January 30 to February 1, 2015.
The organizers of the St. Moritz Snow Polo World Cup and the specialists from St. Moritzer See-Infra AG are in close contact and currently have no evidence that the development of infrastructure on the ice could be significantly delayed or even prevented.
