The big city couldn't be further away

The Hotel Restorant Lej da Staz in St. Moritz/Celerina has successfully started the winter season under new management. Locals and guests enjoy a wide range of culinary delights in a very relaxed atmosphere. The two floors with their terraces are now open to all guests again and an oversized igloo made of snow in the garden attracts attention.

The historic chalet on Lake Stazer between St. Moritz and Celerina is once again open to all guests: Host Marco de Vitiis and his team have once again made the house a well-known meeting place for the general public, where locals and guests come and go during the day and evening.

The first floor with its viewing terrace has once again become a cozy restaurant from a private club. The menu includes local specialities and Swiss evergreens.

The wine cellar is assorted worldwide, with a wide selection of wines from the Bündner Herrschaft region. Pastries and baked goods made in-house as well as local, fresh products are a special feature of the range. 90 percent of the products processed here come from the region or from other areas of Switzerland.

A cathedral made of snow

On the ground floor of the traditional house, a new tea lounge and the garden terrace invite you to enjoy homemade cakes and pastries, cheese and meat platters from local producers or classic English “high tea” in sweet or salty variants. This is where walkers, gourmets and wine connoisseurs meet and enjoy genuine Engadin hospitality.

The recently opened igloo in the garden has become an eye-catcher and attraction for young and old: metre-thick snow walls support an imposing domed roof at a height of more than seven meters.

Barely completed, this snow-covered cathedral has become a popular space for exhibitions and events or simply for taking a few snapshots on social media. The first exhibit in the igloo is a Mini Cooper (1969) from a private collection, which took part in the legendary Bernina Grand Turismo in summer.

In the middle of the Stazerwald

Hotel Restorant Lej da Staz is a meeting place for generations, locals and guests. In the middle of the Stazerwald, a 25-minute walk from St. Moritz, Pontresina or Celerina, there is an alpine idyll straight out of a picture book. The skyline of the mountains is 3,000 meters high, the trails without car traffic, the sunset makes you sigh. Big city life couldn't be further away.

And yet: At the end of the sports holidays, Head Chef David Heimer from “Josef” in Zurich District 5 will cook for guests at the Lej da Staz restaurant for a weekend from February 24 to 26. Sheila Lopardo from the “Acid” bar in Kreis 4 creates a suitable drink for every course, and beats and entertainment are provided in the lounge and in the garden.

After that, peace and quiet returns to picturesque Lake Staz. Cross-country skiers, walkers and families with their children enjoy the unique atmosphere as winter draws to a close. The winter season on Lej da Staz lasts until Easter.
