100 flags of hospitality for the 2017 World Ski Championships

The “St. Moritz Welcomes The World” campaign for the St. Moritz World Ski Championships was a great success. Shops, restaurants and hotels displayed the flags of the participating countries at around 100 locations, welcoming the world to St. Moritz. Numerous media from Germany and abroad reported on the campaign, which was co-initiated by Christian Gartmann.

“Show the flag for hospitality” was the motto of the private campaign “St. Moritz Welcomes The World.” Flags on shop windows, front doors and hotel buses welcomed the 76 participating countries in the World Ski Championships in their respective languages. During the two-week ski festival, the campaign's flags could be seen at around 100 locations; private individuals and other businesses decorated their houses with flags.

“St. Moritz Welcomes The World” became the unofficial slogan of the World Ski Championships. Numerous media took up the slogan and spread it - including even the noble “Times” from London.

The athletes at the World Ski Championships were also impressed by the idea: Quite a few of the participating stores received visits from “their” athletes or national teams.

The campaign was created on the initiative of the three St. Moritz companies Faoro, Gartmann.biz and LATESTA, which they together with the World Ski Championships even organized ones.

Kur- und Verkehrverein and Handels- und Gewerbeverein financed the idea. Even after the World Ski Championships, the flags can still be seen in numerous places. The initiators have called on participants to leave them hanging until at least the end of the winter season.
