Mountaineers connect Davos and St. Moritz

Seven mountaineers covered the high-alpine route from Davos to St. Moritz during the night from Thursday to Friday. They delivered a flag from Davos and a symbolic message to the municipality of St. Moritz. The campaign was called “Davoson” in reference to the marathon run. It is intended to symbolize the connection between the two Olympic candidate locations for 2022.

“St. Moritz and Davos are actually competitors on the tourist market,” said St. Moritz's municipal president Sigi Asprion on Friday when the Davoson patrol arrived at the old Olympic Stadium in St. Moritz. “However, running for the Olympics has helped us to recognize many similarities. This is a positive effect that goes beyond the candidacy.”

Seven mountaineers traveled the route from Davos to St. Moritz during the night and on Friday in a mountain patrol. The high-alpine route led from Davos through the Sertig Valley via the Keschhütte to Bergün and via the Jenatschhütte to St. Moritz, where the group arrived on Friday afternoon.

The patrol was sent out on Thursday evening by Davos Landammann Tarzisius Caviezel: “Graubünden 2022 shows that cooperation beyond the valleys of this canton is not only possible, but also correct. The project has developed into a communication platform where competitors become partners and work together to achieve a larger goal.”

Based on the reporter Pheidippides, who once ran from Marathon to Athens to deliver a message, the patrol not only brought a Davos flag, but also the following text from Davos to St. Moritz:

“We are ready to join forces to preserve our nature and traditions for the future. We wish the two villages a symbolic and sporting unity, the cradle of winter and Olympic sports, and a sense of community among all venues in our region. We honor our athletes and give our youth a new sporting and cultural impetus.”

The Davos flag has been given a prominent place in St. Moritz. It was hung at the entrance to the parish hall.
