Start of construction of InnHub La Punt with focus on timber construction and circular economy

Construction on the InnHub La Punt innovation campus has been ongoing in La Punt/GR since July. A presentation of the construction project to guests and media professionals focused on timber construction and the importance of work tourism for the region. The InnHub La Punt combines modern architecture with responsibility for the environment and the future. It is due to open at the end of 2028.

The Engadin should not only be a place of retreat, but also of reinvention and innovation, said La Punter Caspar Coppetti as representative of all initiators. “La Punt and InnHub should be a meeting place for companies, athletes, the regional population and guests. We want to provide lasting impetus and actively shape progress in the areas of sport, health and innovation.”

According to Coppetti, the InnHub should bring a new form of work tourism to La Punt and Engadin. The initiators of InnHub are particularly proud of the design of the innovation campus by world-renowned architect Norman Foster and the wooden construction. “Architects, planners and experts have developed a building in which innovations can be created and which also radiates the innovation to the outside world,” said Urs Simeon from Fanzun Architekten, who acts as client representative.

“Timber construction with the use of local materials exemplifies the highest architectural standards and sustainable construction. The design completely reinterprets Engadin building culture.”

Around 2,400 spruce trees are used in InnHub La Punt, explained Gian-Andri Solèr, managing director of Uffer Holz AG. “The trees grew in the Engadine, Val Surses and Mittelbünden forests. They were cut and dried from 2023 and are processed in the 'Resurses' sawmill in Tinizong and the Uffer plant in Savognin.” With the decision to consistently rely on regional wood and local processing, InnHub La Punt lives sustainability and strengthens regional added value.

“The InnHub not only stands for modern architecture, but also for responsibility for the environment and the future.” This claim is also reflected in the construction process and cooperation with local construction companies. Since the groundbreaking ceremony in July, the first central work has already been completed. Existing buildings were dismantled, around 15,000 cubic meters of soil material were excavated, the floor slab was cast and the underground access was built. Part of the basement will already be completed by the end of winter, so that timber construction can begin in the coming summer months. The opening of InnHub La Punt is planned for the end of 2028.
