Curdin Raez and Maria Adele Zampa are the Engadin kings of the night

Curdin Raez from Silser and Maria Adele Zampa from Ticino win the 4th Engadin night run. With temperatures around freezing point, both set new track records. The perfect conditions also make for a fast Engadin ski marathon.

After a compulsory break of two years, an Engadin night run could finally take place again on Thursday. The 17-kilometer route between Sils and Pontresina was in excellent condition; there was a new track record for both men and women.

Curdin Rätz from Sils won in the men's sprint ahead of Livio Matossi from St. Moritz and Livio Corsini from Lenzerheide. 37,21.1 minutes mean a new track record. Rätz raved about the fast conditions at the finish line. “The trail is in perfect condition and running through the woods at night is a pleasure.”

New track record for women too

The women's winner, Maria Adele Zampa, found the night run a bit harder. The woman from Ticino, who lives and trains in Celerina, had already finished second in the women's run on Sunday. “Compared to the women's run, night running with some nutritious ascents challenged me a lot more,” she said at the finish line. “In addition, running in the midst of athletically strong men is a completely different challenge than at the head of an all-women's race.” Nevertheless, she enjoyed her run; she also likes running at night in training, said Zampa at the finish line.

With 40,54.0 minutes, she clearly beat the old track record and, with 2.47.4 minutes, brought a significant advantage over Fabiana Wieser from Sent and Christa Jäger from Valens (SG).

For Sunday's Engadin Ski Marathon, the trail conditions and weather forecasts promise good things: A tailwind in good weather and pleasant temperatures will provide ideal conditions for the more than 11,300 runners. Night running winner Curdin Rätz is one of the favorites on Sunday. “Without a broken stick or other difficulties, a top position is possible,” he says confidently.
