Davos Désirée Steiner won the 21st Engadin Women's Race from Samedan to S-chanf. Junior Maria Adele Zampa from Ticino was second, Giuliana Werro from Zernez third. A week before the Engadin Ski Marathon, the track was in excellent condition. Désirée Steiner set a new record time.
More than 900 female runners started the 21st Engadin Women's Run in Samedan on Sunday morning. After two years of interruption due to the pandemic, the organizers once again presented a first-class route. With low temperatures and no headwinds, the pace was high right from the start. Désirée Steiner and Giuliana Werro were active right from the start and did a lot of management work.
“I knew I had to work hard because the competition was very strong,” said Désirée Steiner after her win. Steiner, who ran the route for the first time, almost paid tribute to her active role: “I underestimated the Golan Heights after Zuoz. I had been warned about this section, but I had to bite a lot more than I had expected.” Experienced Seraina Boner, who promptly blew to attack, had more track knowledge in this last section before the finish line.
But Steiner, Werro and Ticino junior Maria Adele Zampa were able to join in and so the decision was made in a group of four. “The victory here may mean less than my World Cups and Continental Cups in terms of sport, but the atmosphere and the track are simply unique,” enthused the winner at the finish line. “This is cross-country skiing in its pure form.” She also thanked her father Toni: “I had a very good ski. I usually prepare them myself, but today it was my dad!” The winner's final time also shows that the material was right: With 4048.1, she set a new track record.
