(Joint media release by the Graubünden Cantonal Hospital Foundation and Klinik Gut AG dated 5.11.2021)
The Graubünden Cantonal Hospital Foundation is taking over all shares of Klinik Gut AG with immediate effect and has two members on the Board of Directors. The Bündner Private Hospital Group operates two orthopedic clinics in St. Moritz and Fläsch as well as six practice locations in the cantons of Grisons, St. Gallen, Zurich and Tessin. It will continue under existing management and as an independent, economically independent company with corresponding objectives. Synergies should be exploited in the future.
It was agreed not to disclose the conditions and the purchase price. “The purchase of Klinik Gut offers a unique opportunity to sustainably strengthen orthopedics in Grisons in particular at national level,” says Hugo Keune, CEO of the Grisons Cantonal Hospital. “In terms of locations and orientation, Klinik Gut is an ideal addition to the Graubünden Cantonal Hospital. Securing the long-term future of Klinik Gut strengthens healthcare in Grisons for years to come.”
A Bündner future solution for Klinik Gut
The previous owners of Klinik Gut AG are seven partner doctors, all of whom work in the group. They have decided to sell in order to secure the continuation of the company in the long term. “There are several retirements among partner doctors in the coming years,” explains Dr. med. Adrian Urfer, who took over Klinik Gut with partners more than 30 years ago. “With the Graubünden Cantonal Hospital Foundation, we have found a buyer from Graubünden who stands for continuity and ensures the future of our clinics and practices.
A medical network is being created from which the population, the guests of Graubünden and the employees of both companies will benefit.”
Klinik Gut will retain its name and will continue as a holding after the takeover. It employs almost 250 people in its two clinics in St. Moritz and Fläsch and in six orthopedic practices. The previous hospital management will remain in place and no job cuts are planned. Two representatives of the KSGR will now sit on the Board of Directors.
“As a result of this merger, the Graubünden Cantonal Hospital and Klinik Gut can position themselves even better and further strengthen their specialization and quality development,” says Chairman of the Board of Directors Thomas Grünenfelder. “The takeover strengthens healthcare in Graubünden.”
Klinik Gut was founded in 1929 by doctor Dr. med. Paul Gut in St. Moritz. In 1987, it was taken over by three partner doctors and converted into a joint stock company in 2004. In 2007, Klinik Gut, which until then only operated in St. Moritz, took over the Lürlibad Clinic in Chur; this was replaced by the new Gut Fläsch Clinic in 2017. On November 1, a new practice was opened in Chur and construction will begin next spring on the new Gut St. Moritz clinic in the spa area. It should start operating at the end of 2023.
