The entire Engadin is preparing for the Engadin Ski Marathon: A good 12,500 runners have already signed up for the biggest cross-country skiing event in the Alpine region. The entire length of the track is in excellent condition.

The Engadin Ski Marathon is the second-largest cross-country skiing event in the world and is once again attracting a great many participants this year. A maximum of 14,200 runners are expected in Maloja on Sunday, March 10. You either run the half marathon to Pontresina or the full 42 kilometers to S-chanf. Whether the maximum number of participants will be reached is still an open question. Last late registrations will be received on Saturday, March 9 at the Marathon Village in Pontresina.

The route is in excellent condition: The Engadin is experiencing a picture-perfect winter and the trail network was already opened in November. The first kilometers of the Engadin Ski Marathon take you across Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana. Thanks to good ice formation and some snowfall, the sections across the Great Lakes could now be opened for general cross-country skiing. Like the entire route, they are freshly prepared every night and thus constantly improved. Some snowfalls are also expected in the current week.

From Monday, March 4 to Wednesday, March 6, the original route can be used as part of the Engadin Individual Ski Marathon be run. The participants receive their individually measured running time. As in Sunday's race, they can give up their effects at the start; they are brought to S-chanf twice a day. At the finish line, the Marathon Chalet is ready for them and awaits them with hot and cold food and drinks.

An integral part of the Engadin Marathon week is Engadin night run became. On Thursday evening, it runs 17 kilometers from Sils to Pontresina. More than 600 participants have already signed up. With a headlamp, you will cross two lakes and then experience the mystical atmosphere of the Stazerwald at night.

Also over 17 kilometers on Sunday, March 3, more than 1,000 women will Engadin Women's Run dispute. In addition to numerous recreational and competitive athletes, there will also be top female athletes at the start. Above all, four-time Olympic champion and 14-time world champion Therese Johaug from Norway, who is back in a race for the first time after a baby break. Audience favorite Selina Gasparin will also be at the start of the women's run. In return, the former world-class biathlete returns to her old home in Engadin.

Information and entertainment in the Marathon Village

The traditional Engadin Marathon week will now be opened with the youngest race: On Saturday, March 2, the Youth sprint took place at the Promulins Arena in Samedan. Youth competitions have been part of the Engadin Ski Marathon for almost four decades; promoting young talent is a central concern of the organizers.

The meeting point for cross-country skiers from Thursday, March 7 to Saturday, March 9 is Marathon Village in Pontresina. At numerous stands and on the event stage, they receive information, food and drink and are entertained with concerts and numerous interviews with stars and experts.

As always, the vast majority of participants and their companions will Arrive by public transport. SBB, Rhaetian Railway and the organizers take them to Maloja on special trains and a large convoy of buses; it is not possible to travel by car individually. They then board the bus or train again right next to the finish area: Since 1998, the Engadin Ski Marathon has had its own event station.
