“I've always wanted to win this race,” said Carla Wohler (22) at the finish line of the Engadin Women's Run in S-chanf. Wohler ran more than two minutes faster than last year's winner and set a new track record of 38 minutes and 26.6 seconds. “The whole race was incredibly fast and everyone had to be constantly on guard because it was constantly being attacked.” The new record time is no coincidence: “The entire track is in excellent condition,” praised the winner.

“Running in these conditions was great fun.” Together with Helena Guntern, Wohler was able to move on to Zuoz and there was a two-way sprint: “Sprints aren't my biggest strength yet,” said the second, who was razor-thin at 0.2 seconds, after the award ceremony. “And in the end, Carla simply had a slightly better lunge.” The winner's twin sister, Gianna Chiara Wohler, finished third. She lost 15.4 seconds.

The three women on the podium have known each other for years: Guntern and the Wohler sisters had trained together at the Ftan High Alpine Institute. The fact that the twins are starting for Spiez today has something to do with their parents' move to the Bernese Oberland. Yet the winner feels at home in Engadin: “I spent most of my life here; winning here means everything to me!” In just one week, Carla Wohler wants to do it again: When asked about her goal for the Engadin Ski Marathon, she says without hesitation: “I want to be in the top ten.”
