The Grisons water ambassador and ultraswimmer Ernst Bromeis must postpone his “Milan Expedition 2015.” The reason for this is injuries that he had sustained during a cycling training accident. However, the healing process is going well, so that the start could be rescheduled for August 27.

One year after his successful expedition to the Rhine, Ernst Bromeis is once again testing his limits. He plans to swim the route from Tenero near Locarno to downtown Milan in one piece. The “Expedition Milano 2015” should last around 40 hours and draw attention to the “Solidarit'eau Suisse” campaign by the Directorate for Development and Cooperation SDC, whose ambassador is Bromeis.
While preparing for his “Expedition Milano 2015,” Ernst Bromeis suffered a setback: In a training accident on the Flüela Pass, two weeks ago, the water ambassador living in Davos fell so severely that he sustained bruises and a broken rib. Due to the injuries, he has to postpone this year's expedition from the beginning of July to August 27 and 28.
“The broken rib and the bruises set me back in preparation, but I will be able to resume regular preparation in about 2 weeks,” explains Ernst Bromeis.
After his first sessions in Davos, he will train in the Mediterranean accompanied by his family and then put the finishing touches on the mountains around Davos from mid-August. “I have to be in top shape to be able to swim for 40 hours in a row.”
On August 27, Ernst Bromeis from Tenero near Locarno will swim across Lake Maggiore. The lake is followed by 20 kilometers in the Ticino River and then 50 kilometers in the “Naviglio Grande” canal to downtown Milan, where it is expected on the evening of August 28.
“The waterways to Milan were once important trade routes and still have great symbolic value for me today,” says the water ambassador. “Water connects humanity across all national borders. With my expedition, I want to point out how Swiss communities are helping to implement water projects in developing countries through the “Solidarit'eau Suisse” campaign.”
