Since Monday, the four-star Hotel Reine Victoria in St. Moritz has been converted into the media hotel for the 2017 World Ski Championships. Technicians install almost 500 workstations and the fastest data connections. From February 3 to 20, over 600 media people from all parts of the world will work in house and some will also live there.

More than 1,700 media professionals are coming to St. Moritz for the 2017 World Ski Championships, over 600 of them work for print and online media as well as broadcasters without broadcasting rights or are photographers. For them, the Hotel Reine Victoria in St. Moritz Bad is being turned into a media hotel.
Almost 500 workplaces will be set up by the beginning of February. In addition to tables, electricity and printers, media people need very fast Internet connections — and good food. Around 250 media professionals will be able to live directly in the media hotel: “The journey from bed to office could hardly be shorter,” says the media manager for the World Ski Championships, Daniel Schaltegger.
Over the next two weeks, he will monitor the development of the infrastructure in the house. “In addition to the beautiful atmosphere and amenities of the four-star hotel with its catering, we offer media people professional working conditions and short distances.”
On Monday, hotelier Christoph Schlatter symbolically handed over the keys to the house to those responsible for the World Ski Championships: “Hosting media representatives at an event is a special task. They travel all year round and stay in hotels. As hosts of the media hotel, we have the opportunity and also the responsibility to look after them particularly warmly and make a good impression on St. Moritz.”
“The media are a key topic of this World Cup. Good accommodation and the best working conditions for media professionals are central to the organization,” said World Cup President Hugo Wetzel at the symbolic handover of the keys. “How the World Ski Championships and St. Moritz are perceived around the world depends on the quality and tonality of their work.”
The press rooms at Hotel Reine Victoria will be open from February 3 to 20 from early in the morning until evening at 22:00. During this time, media people are fed cold and warm by the Reine Victoria crew.
“After that, the talks continue at the bar,” says hotelier Christoph Schlatter. “We want to offer journalists a home.”
There is also provision for the scarce free time of media people: “With the support of many service providers and communities in the valley, the Corvatsch, Engadin St. Moritz Mountains and the destination Engadin St. Moritz, we have put together a program of almost 60 events. It goes from eating fondue to ice climbing,” says Daniel Schaltegger.
“Our ambition is for as many media people as possible to leave as Engadin fans.”
