Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG takes over distribution and spare parts supply for WACO aircraft in Europe

Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG in Dübendorf takes over distribution and sales for the American WACO Aircraft Corporation in Europe. WACO manufactures the two open, classic biplanes “YMF-5” and “Great Lakes” and sells them worldwide. Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG became known for its replica of the historic Junkers F 13.

Since 1983, WACO Aircraft Corp. has been remanufacturing the classic YMF-5. The design icon from the 1930s is being mass-produced by hand in Battle Creek (Michigan). State-of-the-art materials and processing methods are used.

The equipment of the new classic is also ultra-modern: There is a choice of radial engines with up to 300 hp and classic to the most modern cockpit equipment, which even allows the three-seater to fly with instruments.

A new addition in 2018 was the WACO YMF-5F model on amphibious floats. The WACO YMF-5F is the world's only open biplane in its class that is built in series.

The floats with integrated landing gear allow landings on water and on paved surfaces, allowing the YMF-5F to be used almost without restrictions.

In 2011, WACO relaunched the “Great Lakes” aerobatic and travel biplane. The two-seater is smaller and simpler than the YMF-5, but is built with the same materials and processes and is also suitable for aerobatics.

The two open classics are FAA and EASA certified and appeal to aircraft lovers from all continents. Since 1983, almost 200 modern WACOs have been sold. WACO currently employs around 50 people. The production facility in Battle Creek will be significantly expanded in 2019.

Sales and service for European customers

From now on, both WACO Aircraft Corp. models will be sold by Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG based in Dübendorf near Zurich and delivered to European end customers there.

The offer for WACO owners ranges from advice and sales to flight training to the maintenance and supply of spare parts for all models — even from historic times. With the sale of its models by Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG, WACO Aircraft Corp. is improving service for its customers and strengthening its market position in Europe.

Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG is expanding its core business, the reproduction and sale of historic aircraft. The portfolio now ranges from the Junkers F 13, the world's first all-metal airliner, to the classic mixed-construction biplane and even floats.
