New registration records for the St. Moritz Triathlon

The St. Moritz Triathlon is rapidly growing in popularity: More than 300 participants will take part in the Kids Triathlon on Saturday and the Triathlon and Duathlon on Sunday. Numerous world-class athletes are also taking part again. Swiss Nicola Spirig is starting a competition for the first time after her second maternity break.

Even in the year after the Olympic Games in Rio, numerous top teams and individual athletes came to Engadin again to train in a unique mountain climate. Many of them take advantage of the opportunity to compete in a sprint distance test competition on the first weekend of August.

Top athletes from Switzerland, Italy, Chile and South Africa are registered for the triathlon on Sunday, 500 meters in Lake St. Moritz, 20 kilometers by bike in Upper Engadin and 6 kilometers through the Stazer Forest, and the duathlon, 6 km running, 20 km by bike.

The duathlon starts at 9 a.m. and the triathlon at 10:30 a.m.

For the first time after the birth of her daughter Malea in May, Nicola Spirig will also compete again. However, the winner from the previous year will forego the swimming track and will only start in duathlon. Top performances should not be expected from her yet; she only competes for the joy of sport.

For Nicola Spirig, young talent is at the center of interest over the weekend: On Saturday, five to fourteen-year-olds will be taking part in the KidsCup by Nicola Spirig again. Nicola Spirig's initiative is very popular: Around 200 children are likely to start.
