Withdrawals from the municipal council of Val Müstair

Guido Mittner, Roman Oswald and Patrick Wegmann resign from the municipal council of Val Müstair. For personal reasons, the three entrepreneurs do not want to hold office for the entire term of office and are therefore making room for new board members at an early stage. The replacement election for the three vacant seats will take place in March 2022.

There are personnel changes on the board of the municipality of Val Müstair. Municipal leaders Guido Mittner and Roman Oswald have submitted their immediate resignation. Patrick Wegmann is available until a new successor is elected. All three resigners give personal reasons for their decisions. The replacement election is scheduled for March 2022.

Mayor Gabriella Binkert Becchetti regrets the resignations, but also expresses understanding: “The newly formed board of directors has done a good job since the beginning of last year. However, the political sector has peculiarities that political career changers in particular have to get used to first, because it is sometimes difficult to compare it with working in companies.”

Commitment and lots of enthusiasm

With the election to the municipal council, the three resigning board members all assumed political office for the first time. “As an entrepreneur, I am used to tackling changes boldly and quickly implementing decisions once made,” says municipal leader Guido Mittner about the reasons for his immediate resignation. “In political business, however, there is an enormous need for coordination and discussion. My joy in political activity has suffered greatly as a result. However, the office of municipal council requires full commitment and enthusiasm.”

Entrepreneur Roman Oswald had also imagined the functioning of political work differently: “The friction losses in politics are considerable. As a maker, it cost me a lot more substance than I would have expected. The office has become a burden that I can no longer blame on my health, my family and my company.”

Managing and developing the valley community

“My first steps in politics were exciting, but also sobering at the same time,” says community leader Patrick Wegmann. “Politics is much more cumbersome than I would have expected. The municipality has major tasks to do and needs board members who feel comfortable in this system.”

He will remain in office until the successors are elected, as the board would no longer be able to act if three members resigned, says Wegmann: “The well-being of the community is important to me even after the resignation.”

“I would like to thank all three resigners for their great commitment to the municipality of Val Müstair,” says Mayor Gabriella Binkert Becchetti. “Although the early resignations are very unfortunate, they also give the successors enough time to familiarise themselves and make a difference in the current legislature until the end of 2024. I call on the residents of Val Müstair to consider running for office. Our valley community needs personalities who will lead and develop it together.”

Candidatures for the replacement election to the municipal council of Val Müstair can be reported to the municipal office until February 28.

Christian Gartmann was mandated by the municipality of Val Müstair to jointly communicate this matter.
