Rahel Imoberdorf dominates 16th women's run

Rahel Imoberdorf from Münster (VS) won the 16th women's race 2015 from Samedan to S-chanf in 45:08 minutes. Svenja Hölzle was in second place, 1:18 minutes behind. Third in a thrilling finish was Muriel Hüberli, who prevailed over Claudia Schmid at the finish line. The conditions were good and fair with a slight tailwind and very light snowfall. The new starting area with pit start and the new, first section of the route have proved their worth. Almost 1000 female runners had signed up.

The 17-kilometer women's run started this year from a new starting area, so the track and final time are not comparable with the previous year.

Rahel Imoberdorf (26), who finished third last year, took advantage of the low speed of the tactical leader shortly after the start and pulled away inexorably. In the meantime, their advantage was over 1 minute 20, so it was soon clear who would win. Behind the Valais woman, a chasing group of four runners set pace.

Within sight of the finish line, Svenja Hölzle (20, Wädenswil ZH) set off and saved around 50 meters ahead of Muriel Hüberli (34, Scuol GR) and Claudia Schmid (32, Lucerne), who were racing for third place.

New launch area proves successful

The new starting area, pit start and new route have proved their worth. The move to the Promulins Arena, which is centrally located in Samedan, gives runners access to heated cloakrooms, toilets and a restaurant.

As expected, the pit start, in which the participants can walk into the starting field and start individually, calmed down the start. The first section of the route with an easy climb and two bridge crossings made the field even longer.
