Romantic 17 kilometers through the Engadin night

350 cross-country skiers set off on the 17-kilometre-long, first Engadin night run from Sils to Pontresina on Thursday evening. Participants and spectators are looking forward to unique pictures of the winter landscape and musical entertainment along the route. Local top runner Curdin Perl is also at the start.

With a full moon over the lakes and through the forests of the Upper Engadin: The first Engadin night run promises to be a romantic, even mystical experience for participants and spectators. “More participants signed up for the premiere than expected,” says marathon managing director Menduri Kasper. “You're sure to enjoy the contrast between the tranquil lakes and forests and the lively town passageways.”

At five points along the route, they are greeted and encouraged by music formations.

Although the Engadin night run is a race with time measurement and rankings, the focus for many of the participants will be on the experience in the winter landscape at night. If the weather is clear, the light of the full moon should be sufficient for the run, but all participants will also have to wear a headlamp. Cross-country skiing fans, photographers and filmmakers can look forward to attractive pictures.

Late registrations are still possible

Last-minute participants can still register online until Wednesday evening at www.engadin-skimarathon.ch sign in. On Thursday, registrations can be made on site at the race office at the Marathon Village, St. Moritz.

The marathon week opened last Sunday with the 18th Women's Run. The race took place in the best conditions and 979 female runners were welcomed to the finish line and invited to an aperitif at QUADRIN.

On Friday evening, the marathon week continues with the next highlight: juniors and elite runners start the 37th night sprint in St. Moritz, before the 49th Engadin Ski Marathon covers 42 kilometers between Maloja and S-chanf on Sunday.

Information to media professionals

Because of the rapid onset of darkness, much of the race will take place in the dark. We therefore recommend that you focus more on the region between Sils and St. Moritz when taking pictures in twilight.

When working, please consider wild animals, which should not be disturbed unnecessarily at night.
