Around 600 athletes from over 70 nations are taking part in the World Ski Championships: From Albania to Brazil to Lebanon and Uzbekistan — the whole world is coming to St. Moritz. And all guests are warmly welcomed with the “St. Moritz Welcomes the World” campaign. The St.

Moritz companies decorate their showcases, shop windows or glass doors with specially produced adhesive that shows the flag of a nation and a welcome message in their local language: 84 businesses with locations ranging from Suvretta House to Alto Bar on Chantarella and Hotel Bären to Waldhaus am See have signed up so far and are supporting this colorful project.

Danish beer and Finnish movies

“St. Moritz Welcomes the World” was created on the initiative of businesses: “We set no limits to creativity,” says co-initiator Eveline Fasser Testa. “Our window adhesives are just the basic equipment — we are looking forward to many individual ideas as part of the campaign.” Some companies have already announced their own activities for their host nation. For example, customers at the Pomatti electronics store enjoy beer from the host country Denmark and the jewelry and watch boutique Gübelin invites Canadian athletes to join them.

Heidi Kopp, a co-initiator of the campaign, is showing films by award-winning Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki in the FAORO multi-brand store. “Finland is so close and yet so far away,” she says enthusiastically. “The World Ski Championships are a great opportunity to get to know a host country and bring it closer to locals and guests.”

The flags of hospitality

The joint project was made possible through hard work and the generous support of the St. Moritz Spa and Tourist Association (KVV), the St. Moritz Trade and Industry Association (HGV) and the organization of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships St. Moritz 2017. World Cup Marketing Director Michaela Reichel was there from the start: “We are very pleased that, in addition to all the official World Cup events, locals are now implementing their own action.” “St. Moritz Welcomes the World” will Be a colorful splash of color during this big ski festival. “St.

Moritz shows the flags of hospitality,” says the fourth member of the group, Christian Gartmann. “The many flags in the village and in the pool symbolize our internationality and the joy that the world is visiting us at the World Cup.” Let yourself be surprised by the ideas of the companies during a tour of the spa and village!
