Heavy precipitation leads to more rockfalls in Brienz Rutsch

Since Sunday, June 7, heavy and sometimes prolonged precipitation has been falling over the Brienz slide area. As a result, parts of the landslide high above the village of Brienz/Brinzauls move more strongly. The number of rockfalls rose significantly, with some boulders rolling down to the meadow above the cantonal road.

Die Albula Alvra Municipality informed in the latest Information bulletin about the increased activity of the Brienz slide following the current rainfall. Despite the increased rockfalls, the village of Brienz/Brinzauls is not endangered.

The situation is closely monitored using a georadar and automated tachymeter measurements. It is likely to last a few more days. The parts of the landslide that are now moving more heavily have a volume of a few 10,000 m3.

The image of the georadar from June 8 clearly shows the stronger movements in parts of the landslide. Dark grey/green: barely movement/no movement. Yellow/orange/red/purple: stronger movement
