World-class teams at the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz 2016

100 days before the Cartier Trophy final, the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz announced the teams in 2016. Teams from England, Italy, Ireland and Switzerland will compete in the only high goal tournament on snow. Chris Hyde, currently the best snow polo player in the world, is there again. The St. Moritz Snow Polo World Cup will take place from January 29-31, 2016.

Numerous prominent teams from Europe and overseas have applied for one of the four places taking part in the Snow Polo World Cup 2016. The tournament management under founder Reto Gaudenzi has now invited Spencer McCarthy (England), Rommy Gianni (Italy), Richard Fagan (Ireland) and Cedric Schweri (Switzerland) to the tournament.

The four captains will now each put together a high-goal team. Four-time St. Moritz winner Nacho Gonzalez (GBR) and Chris Hyde (GBR) are already registered as part of the English team. Hyde has already won five times in St. Moritz and is currently considered the best snow polo player in the world.

On the last weekend in January, world-class polo sports are therefore guaranteed against the unique mountain backdrop of the Engadin. St. Moritz is the birthplace of snow polo: 32 years ago, the world's first polo tournament on snow took place here on the frozen lake.

The three tournament days offer excellent polo sports and a supporting program with social events on the lake and in the exclusive hotels in St. Moritz. More than 20,000 spectators are expected again.

“Every year, our guests are impressed by the special atmosphere on the frozen lake in the midst of one of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the world,” enthuses Reto Gaudenzi, founder and CEO of Evviva Polo St. Moritz AG. “Nowhere in the world are genuine hospitality, luxury and an authentic alpine lifestyle so closely linked as in St. Moritz. Locals and guests, polo fans, winter sports enthusiasts and connoisseurs meet here.”

The St. Moritz Snow Polo World Cup also enjoys a special status from a sporting perspective: Nowhere else in the world is snow played in such a high performance category. For world-class players and polo fans from all parts of the world, St. Moritz is therefore an important date in the annual calendar.

For the tournament, around 100 horses will be brought to St. Moritz, accustomed to the snow and acclimatized. Admission to the St. Moritz Snow Polo World Cup, including the stand, is traditionally free for all spectators.

Local restaurateurs led by Badrutt's Palace Hotel offer the public a wide range of culinary delights. Guests in the VIP area are pampered by top chef Reto Mathis. VIP tickets are available in advance at www.ticketcorner.ch; the offer is limited.
