Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz confirmed for 2015

Next winter, world-class snow polo will once again be coming to St. Moritz: four high goal teams from Europe and overseas will be competing for the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz 2015 between 30 January and 1 February. The new promoters, operating under Evviva Polo St. Moritz Ltd, successfully concluded all main sponsorship contracts; the event, thus, is secured financially.

On the last weekend in January, high goal teams from the Americas, Germany, Australia and Switzerland will be competing for the coveted Cartier Trophy on the frozen lake of St. Moritz. The three days of the tournament will see high-class polo played against the magnificent backdrop of a snow-capped Engadin Valley and social events both on the lake and in the first-class hotels in St. Moritz.

«The response to our project is phenomenal—every one is pulling together as a team», says Reto Gaudenzi delightedly. «Today, thanks to the support of the sponsors, as well as the town of St. Moritz, the St. Moritz tourism board and the Engadin St. Moritz tourism organisation, we are able to confirm that the tournament in 2015 is secured financially.» Having pledged the four team sponsors Cartier, Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, BMW and Trois Pommes, as well as the Gold Sponsor Deutsche Bank and the outfitter La Martina, the promoters were successful in securing all main sponsorships.

Reto Gaudenzi and his team have taken over the responsibility for the tournament in St. Moritz less than four months ago. In spring, following the withdrawal of the previous organisers, the erstwhile initiator of polo on snow and longstanding friends of the St. Moritz tournament stood in; they set up a new promoting organisation and immediately started working to ensure the traditional event would be carried out again.

As always, admission to the St. Moritz Snow Polo Tournament is free—and this includes admission to the stands. Local chefs offer a wide range of culinary delights to the public. Those who fancy something more exclusive may opt for the VIP area, where they can lunch on the new terrace right by the polo field with star chef Reto Mathis spoiling their palates. A limited number of VIP tickets are available under www.ticketcorner.com as of now.

Snow Polo and the Evviva Polo St. Moritz Ltd The world’s first ever polo on snow competition took place in St. Moritz in 1985. Ever since, St. Moritz has been enwrapped with the Snow Polo World Cup on the last weekend in January. In early 2014, a group of well-known personalities from the Swiss polo circle—Piero Dillier, Reto Gaudenzi, Andy Küchel, Werner Meier and Thomas Rinderknecht—founded Evviva Polo St. Moritz Ltd and thus lay the foundation for a continuation of the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz.
