Preparations for the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz on track

The somewhat belated formation of ice on the lake of St. Moritz has not yet impacted the preparations for the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz at the end of January. Experts from the St. Moritz Lake Commission have been continuously monitoring the rate of formation of the ice and its quality; enough time is left for erecting the infrastructure on the lake.

Optimistisch: Reto Gaudenzi

Eiskontrolle: Dicke und Qualität werden laufend geprüft

A warm onset of winter and warm temperatures again at the beginning of the new year have delayed the ice formation on the lake of St. Moritz by a few days. By 30 December, the lake had frozen over and the layer of ice has been thickening ever since. The analyses conducted by the lake commission experts show that the thickness and the quality of the ice are satisfactory.

«The weather forecast for the coming week promises cold nights and days—St. Moritz and the friends of snow polo may look forward to the tournament at the end of January,» says a confident Reto Gaudenzi, CEO of the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz. Teams from Australia, Ireland, Italy and Switzerland will be competing at the world’s only high goal snow polo tournament in St. Moritz between 30 January and 1 February 2015.

The organisers of the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz and the specialists of the St. Moritz See-Infra Ltd have been in close contact and they have no reason to believe that erecting the infrastructure on the ice will be delayed significantly, let alone be made impossible.
